Return to the chickens
Although it is still very cold, the signs of spring are in
the gardens and in the air. Trees in the streets are budding and bulbs started
to colour gardens and parks. Today we were visited by two black birds which
actually landed in our garden. I guess they were sharing the chicken food which
is normally eaten by fat mice!
So our 2 chickens have settled in and are happy to wonder
around the garden and ruin the borders that I have been struggling to maintain
in half decent shape. I already lost the battle of tiding the chicken mess.
On the positive side, we have more eggs that we can eat. I
told family and friends to check with me before buying eggs as we will probably
have enough for few people around. The eggs are really big and when fried, they
are very yellow. I guess these eggs are both organic and result of free range
chickens.
My 3 years old nephew-Bebs- loves playing with the chickens.
He is not interested in collecting eggs but he is very focused on getting the
chickens to play football with him. This afternoon he managed to escape
observation and I found him next to me in the garden without coat or shoes. I
had to carry him inside the house screaming with red nose and frozen cold hands
and feet.
Yesterday and today I managed to clean bit of our small
garden and planted some turnip and radish and covered them with fleece for
protecting the seeds from birds and chicken. I forgot to cover the Egyptian
Korrat which I am afraid may be killed by cold.
Gardening is the most peaceful occupation that I enjoy. While
there, i forget that a world full of turmoil exist. All that matter is soil, seeds, plants.
